New HUD, enemy death animations, and more enemies and perks


Note: These changes currently only apply to the Linux and HTML version. They'll be coming to Windows in the next day or so.


This release of Sumash has a revamped Head's Up Display (HUD) where Lives, keys and locks, and the score are all combined into 2 place. Gone is the high score (which didn't store the high score beyond the current game run). The UI will likely change a bit more, perhaps with the return of the high score later.

More enemies have been added throughout the level, making the game more difficult to complete. More perks, extra lives and mystery treasures, have also been added to help balance things out.

When enemies are destroyed there's now a small animation. Previously enemies just disappeared.

With the old UI, keys disappeared once you unlocked the same coloured lock. Keys now stay on the HUD when you unlock a lock, but the same coloured lock also appears below the lock.

What's coming next?

Adding "The Shadow" is the next big step for the game. Currently the sprite exists, but isn't implemented in the game. The Shadow, in the original game, sometimes appeared randomly. In the original game you could only stun The Shadow, unless you were in the end game room. This is the planned behaviour.

Level 2 is also on my radar. Currently the game ends once you reach the teleporter. Once level 2 is implemented, the teleporter will start you at the beginning of level 2.

A save game option so that once you reach level 2 it doesn't start you back at level 1 if you die.
